Do you think about how your personal style meets decor choices? I’ve realized a few things as I settled into my adulthood and left the teeny-bopper land behind. I seemed to have some rules that float between worlds…
- I like a good classic.
- Cost-to-wear ratio should always be considered.
- Punch it up with a great accessory.
And, for a little bonus — visit my giveaway at the end of this post!!
This gorgeous dresser fits into the “classics” column… and though I would of been happy to spend more on this pretty little thing, (I picked it up at the thrift store for 60 beans) it really hit the mark — timeless, and great value! Enter my fun chevron curtains, for a punch of pattern at only $20 per panel.
Then, there are the staples. How about your sofa? To date I’ve tended to go for the neutral colour and get it popping with some fun throw pillows and accessories. We all need them, they are one of the more expensive items we tend to put in our living rooms and the “cost-to-sit” ratio is pretty good (even with higher prices). I think great denim is the same way — and always a classic. I live in my jeans, paired with a grey tee. And, much like the perfect sofa, I dress it up a little with pops of colour and fun accessories. My favourite for Spring? My new Ecco Damara Booties, (isn’t that chilli red so fun?) And, welllll, I couldn’t stop at just one new pair for the season…
… so I went a little girly, and got these fun navy wedges with a tan ankle strap too (from Donna Piú) Y’know… gotta treat yourself every once and a while.
Then there are the little details. Not so much the punch of colour, but that special something that pulls it all together.
These classic Hepplewhite chairs were a total steal at only $250 for the china cabinet and set of six chairs. But… they were a little outdated, so they got dressed up with a creamy white and I pulled it all together with that perfect embroidered seat detail. How about that offset stripe? So amazing! And, well, it isn’t just fabric at all — I actually used a shower curtain (Nate Berkus – discontinued – whomp whomp) to recover all six seats!
Kinda like those finishing touches that make a gal feel special. These Anthropologie earrings are in my little ears all the waking hours lately. I’m a sucker for a daily earring I love, but don’t have to give a whole lotta thought to on a regular basis — and these fit the bill! (See them here: hoops, studs). Fun fact: I’ve got two holes in each ear, so I can wear these lovelies two-at-a-time. Those little hex micro studs are the perfect second pair.
When things are classic and timeless I think it’s fun to throw in something quirky to mix it up a little. Whether it’s jeans and a fun shoe… or your foyer with classic black and white interior, but throw in a homemade copper shoe rack? Sure! Why not?!
If it suits you then it’s a-ok in my book. Anything goes… and EVERYTHING goes with the classics!
