Good morning, my lovelies! You look beautiful today, and I’m excited to share a little more beauty with you. I was invited to take part in a creative new, virtual room challenge, sponsored by Itsums, where you can create a beautiful room, all with “your vision, your project, your budget”.
9 Bloggers have accepted the challenge — Buuuuuut, I’m not sure how much of a challenge it is to get a bunch of home decor bloggers, to do some online shopping for beautiful things! However, this challenge did have a twist — 1. We all had the same budget ($2500). 2. It had to be a kids room, and, 3. It could be for a child of any age…

I decided to use my crystal ball, and peek ahead to some possibilities for my FUTURE tween (or teen), daughter’s room! (Why do I feel like this is just around the corner?!) I gotta admit, I did this without any input from the Kiddo, because, let’s face it… if we designed a room around her current 4 year old thoughts, it would be all things Frozen… Olaf, Anna, Elsa — so… we’ll let that go.
I did, however, take her first four fabulous years into account, when designing this room — for a little, Modern Rustic Teen Room, number. Her current love of pink, maps, animals, and art, all played a part. I just projected a little maturity onto it, while choosing items that would have a little longevity. (Won’t it be fun to revisit this post, 10 years from now, and see how my choices hold up?)
So, here is the fun part, and that special bit of fairy dust joining all 9 fabulous bloggers together… Itsums! This was pretty cool — You want a room? You plan a room. You punch in a project name, a budget, and start shopping! Itsums handles it all. It tracks your spending against your chosen budget, and even breaks down how and where you’re spending your money, and displays it all in a simple graph, and percentages on your Itsums board.
Shop away, online, at all of your favourite haunts. Are you an Ikea gal? Is Pottery Barn your go-to? Itsums is along for the ride. Install the handy dandy bookmarklet and, you’re ready to go!
Here’s a little snapshot of my board. Pretty snazzy… I’ve got some CB2 on there, a little Pottery Barn Kids, and the coolest bits of Society 6, Ikea, and Etsy too. Check out the graph on the right breaking all the details down for you.
Psst! With Christmas just around the corner, having a board to plan out all of your shopping, and keeping you on budget, would be a stellar idea!
Here is the floor-plan, I’m working with. Twin bed, for the sleeping part. Chair and desk for the oh-so-important, homework part. And a comfy chair and pouf for the lounging part. Can I live here?
I used Photoshop to create this handy dandy visual of all my Itsums board products. Brought to life, and perfectly on budget, but no thanks to my usual type of planning — I would of been waaaay off, if it wasn’t for my Itsums board. I punched in my $2500 budget, and it kept me on track. No fuss, no muss, and more importantly, no math for me!
Keeping true to my DIY roots, I even budgeted for a couple do-it-myself projects, like a wood plank accent wall, and a custom window treatment, with these gorgeous fabrics!
I love seeing everything, all in one spot. Budget, style, and all the pretty details accounted for. Nothing is too small to plan for — like my Society6 clock. How cute is this thing?
Now for the really fun part! Sign up, and get instantly entered for a Pottery Barn Kids, gift card!
