Good morning everyone,

A few of my fun blogging friends have gotten together to share a little “behind the blogger” series. And, what’s on the menu this week? Me! It’s always a bit strange anytime I’m expected to talk specifically about myself — I mean, I can talk your ear off about paint chips, and my latest thrifted piece… but me? Weirdo. So, here goes…

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

I’ve been “a creative” for as long as I could hold a pencil. I can remember my parents bragging about how I could draw perfect “popcorn hands” on the earliest drawings of family and friends, and it kinda took off from there.

When I was 14, my Mom let me paint a wall in my room, the deepest of purples. Yep, purple (hey, it was the 90s — it was cool), and I realized the way I felt about all those shapes and figures in my sketchbook, could extend to my surroundings. Whether I was drawing it, wearing it, or living in it — it was all art.

Eventually I ended up furthering my education in graphic design and spent about 10 years working in the advertising industry. I started out in some serious “paying my dues” territory, but, kept striving for better, and ended up experiencing a few, truly wonderful positions, that expanded my creativity, and gave me friendships that will last a lifetime.

Now, I’m a Blogger, and a stay-at-home Mom, that still does a little graphic design, on the side. I have a super supportive husband, and the spunkiest and cutest, little four-year-old girl. Life’s pretty good.

Why did you start a blog?

It all started as a hobby. I barely knew what the heck a blog was, when I started. Before hitting “publish” for the first time, I had serious self-doubt. Who was going to read this thing anyway?

But I loved seeing before and afters on some of my favourite sites, so it kind of started as a way to share some of my own projects, from around the house. Then, I discovered a couple “mother-ships” — Design Sponge, Apartment Therapy… and I realized, whoa! There is a whole blogging community happening behind the scenes here. And, maybe I should try and make this little site of mine, something… more.

What do you hope to accomplish with your blog (blog goals)?

Yowzah! If you had asked me that question two years ago, I would of told you I felt confused, and lost, about making this whole blogging thing happen for me. But today, I am connected with an amazing… just wait, I know the word “amazing” is the most over-used word in the english language, especially when people communicate on social media… but I am connected with the MOST AMAZING GROUP of bloggers, from all over the continent, who push and support each other, to be better. And, do better. I’ve learned countless tips along the way of connecting with readers, and keeping on track, with my blogging goals.

So my goals? To connect on a genuine level with readers. To make a modest income doing what I love. And, to produce the absolute best content I can.

What do you like about blogging?

First, I love that I am completely immersed in creativity. All kinds. I’m even entering the world of video with my own YouTube channel! And, I’ve rediscovered my fine art roots. I’m in a place where every project, and everything I do, comes from a place of creativity.

Second, the connection with bloggers and readers. There is so much love out there, and I’ve been lucky enough to attract some pretty awesome people, into my little world online. I have some loyal readers (you know who you are), that I genuinely appreciate. I can’t believe I’m in a place where people make sure to visit every week, just to see what I’ve been up to!? I couldn’t be more thankful for you.

If you could go back, is there anything you would change about your blog, and why?

No. Not now. Every experience I’ve had is burned into my little brain, and has taught me something along the way. I have a deeper understanding about where my focus should be, and who my readers are, with every new step I take. It has helped shape my blog into exactly what it should be for now, and has left room for incredible growth for the future.

Do you have any advice to share with a newbie blogger?

Just start. Write about anything that interests you. Yep, some posts will be total duds. But that’s how you’ll learn. Just start writing. Oh, and get over yourself. Not everyone out there in internet-land will see your vision. And, they don’t need to. Just be genuine, be yourself, and the right readers will find you.

Phew! We made it to the end! Thanks for spending the time with me today! Make sure to keep the love flowing, with visits to these fine ladies in blog-land…
