DIY Coasters, supplies:
- Felt (mine was provided by the fine folks at Kunin Felt)
- Sewing Machine (this is the one I have, and it’s awwwwwesooooome!)
- Thread
- Scissors
- Hexagon Template (Download yours right here for free)
You can check out my full video tutorial right here!
Step One:
Use your awesome new hexagon template and use it to cut your felt into as many coasters as you’d like to make…
Step Two:
Pin each point of the hexagon and aim the pins toward the centre of the coaster. We’ll be using these pins as our pivot points once we start sewing.
Step Three:
Sew! Start at one point, about a 1/4″ in from the edge, and give a reverse sew for just a few stitches to reinforce the strength. (You can also use your presser foot as a spacing guide). Follow along each edge, stopping at each pin. Leave your needle down and in the felt fabric, lift your presser foot and then pivot the coaster to sew along the next edge. Continue all the way around!
Step Four:
Trim excess thread and remove the pins. All that’s left to do is stand back and admire your handy-dandy sewing! Look at those crisp points! Love it!
Have fun, and try a couple different colours!
These are so easy and turned out as perfect as punch! Not to mention they could really add a pop of colour to your next cocktail party!
Customize the colour of your DIY Coasters to match your shindig, or dazzle your new home-owner buds with custom coasters to match their decor.
Be sure to fix yourself a pretty drink when you’re all done. A few mini cupcakes never hurt anyone either. Party on!
