We’re going to have fun with Sharpies today! I promise, this Sharpie Mug project is cheap and easy. What could be better, right? My original designs are even available for download — even easier! Be sure to grab yours, and let’s get started!
Do yourself a favour and visit your local Dollar Store. They always seem to have great, simple, glassware at a fraction of the cost of most retail stores. I bought my two mugs for $1.50 each. Not too shabby! (This post may contain affiliate links. This means, should you end up making a purchase, advertisers give me a small percentage of that sale, at absolutely NO EXTRA COST to you. This is the Sharpie Paint Marker I used. Be sure you are buying the “oil-based” ones, (they are available in a couple different nib weights). Oil-based is important for baking our designs, to “set” them, at the end of the project. They write really smooth and are easy to work with. But how do we transfer our design onto the mug? A super fun trick, straight outta kindergarten…
Sharpie Mug – Image Transfer
1. Print out your design onto plain printer paper.
2. Trim your design to size, and rub a soft lead pencil onto the BACK of your design.
3. Keep scratching until it’s completely covered.
4. Tape your design onto your mug, right-side facing out.
5. Use a sharp pencil or ballpoint pen to firmly trace over your design.
6. The lead will transfer onto your mug and give you the perfect tracing outline.
7. Trace your little heart out with your fancy new oil-based Sharpie.
8. Bake your designs in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, and leave them inside as your oven cools down completely.
Voilá! You now have some customized, and super-rad, new mugs to enjoy your morning cup o’ joe in. Around here, it’s definitely a “First I drink the coffee, then I do the things” situation. And, I don’t know about you, but “Messy bun, & getting stuff done” may as well be my mantra.
See? There I go again! ;)
